Sao Paulo -
This catadore cannot become part of the collective. He is sorting out his garbage in the street. He cannot leave his car behind afraid as he is it will be stolen. The man works for a boss in a strangling construction. The boss paid for his trip to come to Sao Paulo and for his car. The man will never be able to pay back his debts. So he is bound to keep on working for the man. Unprotected, on his own. He cannot submit to the ’equal rights’ of the collective. He has to liberate himself first. It is a form of new urban slaverism. In Sao Paulo the newest newcomers are exploited in this way more often. There are Bolivian people, the newest newcomers put into slavery by less new newcomers like Koreans in their garment studios.
