The laundry is out in the sun. So there are people still living in this village. In my home country the Netherlands the bureaucracy drives me crazy from time to time and I ask myself how people can cope with this if they do not have a university degree like I have. But the bureaucracy put upon the Palestinians by the occupation is beyond comprehension. Let alone in this small village there are A, B and C areas. A=Palestinian authority, B is mixed Israeli and Palestinian authority and C is Israeli authority. Despite the fact the land in owned by individual Palestinians. And then there is a part what the Israeli consider to be part of Jerusalem. And that last part is the place where Palestinians like to live. They can travel into Israel and have the Israeli healthcare and social security. But the costs are high, you have to do a lot of bookkeeping to prove you are really living there all the time. If you have a mixed marriage as Palestinians (one of you have an Israeli ID and the other a Westbank ID) you do not have a choice: you have to live in this Jerusalem area. The wife can go and work in Jerusalem and the husband can go to his job in Ramallah like is the case with one of the Riwaq architects. That is why there are so many high-rises in the far right of the picture. CAN YOU STILL FOLLOW IT?
