Detroit -
Two men who migrated to the city from Kentucky in 1950s work on an old truck that belongs to the one on the right. They stayed behind when most of their neighbors moved to the suburbs. The men are determined to get the truck fixed. Without a car, your mobility in Detroit is severely reduced. Public transportation is very limited and the city is very spread out. Detroit was built to accommodate virtually unlimited number of personal cars. Because of the pressure from the auto industry, large highways were built through the center of vibrant black neighborhoods, destroying the communities in the process and the subway system or tram system in the city was never created. Detroit was home to American automotive industry and was fiercely proud of it. Detroit. Marcin Szczepanski
