Almost captain

Rotterdam -  Young skippers are trained in Maashaven. Lars de la Rie (one more week of school to go before he will be inland skipper) told me he was born only 5 minutes walking distance from here, in Rotterdam Zuid, went to the captains school, less than one mile form Maashaven. His boss on the Fighter is his former neighbor.
He thinks there is a bright future for skippers. Cities in Belgium and Germany will always need sand, pebbles for concrete, and ore. ‘They are digging canals all the way to Paris now.'
