Lagos -
Mr Lawal from Katsina on his commercial motor bikes also known as Okada awaiting passenger in Onike, another migrant community in Lagos. He left his family after hearing many stories that Lagos is the place financial opportunities. With no formal skills he came to Lagos and started working a shoe repairer. According to him: Things were good in Lagos , when I first came. I was making money and sending to my family. He said it was from the money he made from shoe repairs he was able to buy his first commercial motor bike . Today, he has ten Okadas but complains that life is much difficult for me today compared to the time he first arrive the city. He missed his family but tries visiting them once in every three to four months.
Okada which became visible on the road in Lagos as community transportation has now come to be one of the main means of transport and a source of employment for many especially the newcomers. It comes with it challenges as many of the drivers are reckless that the government have not restricted to a few routes in Lagos.
